Tragedy in Limpopo: Self-Proclaimed Prophet Held for Brutal Killings and Assault Of Mother and Daughter
A chilling case has rocked Limpopo Province after a 35-year-old man claiming to be a prophet was arrested for the alleged murders of a mother and daughter, and the assault of the younger woman. The heartbreaking incident unfolded in Silver Oaks village on Saturday morning.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed that officers received reports of a murder near Willows Clinic. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of a 37-year-old woman with stab wounds to her neck. Before succumbing to her injuries, the woman reportedly told her sister that both she and her daughter had been attacked by a man claiming prophetic powers.
The daughter, a young woman of 20, was found deceased in the living room, half-naked with a stab wound and signs of sexual assault. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Further horrors awaited as a five-year-old boy, the younger brother of the deceased women, was found bound and gagged in his room.
Investigations revealed a possible connection between the woman and the suspect, with Mashaba stating, "It is believed that the 35-year-old woman used to consult the suspect due to his claims of being a prophet." However, the motive behind the brutal murders remains unclear.
Following a manhunt, police apprehended the suspect at a local hitchhiking spot. He has been detained at Hoedspruit police station and faces charges of two counts of murder and rape. A court appearance at Hoedspruit Magistrate's Court is expected soon.
Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the officers' swift action and emphasized the need for justice. "We commend the police for reacting promptly to arrest this individual who exploited his claimed role as a prophet for heinous acts," Hadebe stated. "This case sends a strong message: anyone harming women and children, regardless of their social standing, will face the full consequences of the law."
