Tragedy Strikes University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV): Gunman Dead in Campus Shooting

 


On Wednesday morning, a harrowing scene unfolded at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) when reports of an active shooter sent shockwaves through the campus. Thankfully, the suspect is now deceased, according to authorities.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill provided updates on the situation via social media, stating, "We know there are 3 victims at this time, but the extent of their injuries is still unknown. This number could change. We will update you as soon as we have more information."

Details regarding any fatalities remain unclear.

Campus police received a call regarding an active shooter at 11:45 a.m., prompting immediate response from officers, according to Adam Garcia, Vice President of Public Safety Services and Director of University Police Services Southern Command at UNLV. Garcia further confirmed that the suspect was engaged by police and is now deceased.

Authorities have confirmed that the campus is currently safe and no further threat exists. Sheriff McMahill expressed uncertainty about the shooter's motive, stating, "We have no idea what the motive may have been."

Shortly before noon on Wednesday, a series of alarming alerts were issued by the official UNLV social media accounts. The first urged everyone on campus to seek immediate safety, citing a report of a shooting at Beam Hall. This was followed by another post detailing additional reports of gunfire at the Student Union.

A subsequent post confirmed the presence of an active shooter, prompting swift action by law enforcement.
