Woman Suing Late Rapper Takeoff for Alleged Sexual Assault Wants His Mother to Take His Place in Court
A woman who previously accused rapper Takeoff of sexual assault is taking legal action to continue her case despite his death in November 2022.
According to MyNewsLA, the woman, who remains anonymous, filed court documents on December 8th requesting that Takeoff's mother, Titiana Davenport, be named as the defendant in the lawsuit.
This is because Davenport is the acting administrator of his estate. A judge is scheduled to decide on this request during the next hearing, which is set for February 22nd, 2024.
The woman initially filed the lawsuit in August 2020, alleging that Takeoff sexually assaulted her at a party in June of that year. She claims he made her uncomfortable by staring at her and later confronted her after seeing her with another man.
According to her account, Takeoff then entered a room where she was alone and raped her despite her protests.
Takeoff, through his attorney Drew Findling, denied these allegations, calling them "patently and provably false." He maintained that the claims were motivated by "an obvious exploitative money grab." However, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced in April 2021 that they would not be pursuing criminal charges against Takeoff in this case.
This legal battle is now entering a new phase as the woman seeks to hold Takeoff's estate accountable for the alleged incident. It remains to be seen how the judge will rule on the request to name Davenport as the defendant and whether the case will ultimately proceed to trial.
