Man on GPS monitoring admits to ax murder following child sex abuse charge

In a chilling crime news update, a man from New Mexico, Armando Zamora, has pleaded guilty to the shocking murder of his wife, Erica Zamora, using an axe.

What makes this case even more alarming is that Armando committed this heinous act while he was on probation for a previous crime involving criminal sexual contact with a minor, all while being monitored by a GPS ankle device.

Armando Zamora, 38, entered a guilty plea for second-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and admission of identity as a habitual offender. The court's disposition agreement revealed that he received a 16-year sentence for second-degree murder and four years each for two counts of tampering with evidence, to be served consecutively.

Notably, Zamora had previously pleaded guilty in 2019 to criminal sexual contact with a minor under 13 years old, and he was in the midst of a divorce from his wife at the time of the incident. The gruesome murder took place following an argument, and it was revealed that Zamora, who was on supervised probation, was wearing a GPS ankle monitor.

Erica Zamora went missing on September 26, 2021, and her official report as a missing person was filed on October 1. Authorities swiftly identified Armando as a suspect, thanks in part to the ankle monitor data. The GPS records contradicted Armando's claims about their whereabouts from September 26 to September 28, exposing inconsistencies in his story.

Under scrutiny, Armando eventually admitted to the axe murder during a police interview on October 3, 2021. He claimed the killing occurred after an altercation in which the victim allegedly punched him. The murder weapon was reportedly discovered in Armando's home, further solidifying the case against him.
