A 66-year-old Mississippi woman with a chilling past faces first-degree murder charges for the death of her own son. Jerri Lynn Isreal, previously convicted of driving around with a dead body in her trunk, is accused of killing her 42-year-old son, John Allen Gaither, and concealing his remains in a hidden room behind a false wall.
The investigation began after a missing person report was filed in late December. As detectives delved deeper, inconsistencies in Isreal's statements raised red flags. This, coupled with her past conviction for a similar murder, further deepened suspicion.
In 1993, then known as Jerri Gaither, Isreal shot a woman in Florida and drove with the body in her trunk before abandoning it and fleeing authorities. After two years on the run, she was captured and sentenced to 17 years for second-degree murder. Isreal was released in 2003 but served another prison term in 2016 for attempted drug trafficking.
Now, back in the clutches of the law, Isreal faces a potentially life sentence if convicted of killing her own son. Police have not revealed the cause of death or the motive behind the alleged crime, but the discovery of Gaither's body hidden behind a false wall adds a chilling layer to this already tragic story.
Isreal remains in custody without bond, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward and help shed light on this dark chapter in a family already burdened by tragedy.
