Suspect Charged After Wisconsin Newlyweds Were Gunned Down in Local Bar

Tragedy has struck the Wisconsin town of Elkhorn, where a seemingly ordinary night at a local bar turned into a true crime nightmare. On February 1st, newlyweds Gina and Emerson Weingart were brutally shot and killed inside the Sports Page Bar, leaving the community searching for answers.

Following an intense investigation, authorities apprehended 57-year-old Thomas Routt Jr. and charged him with multiple felonies, including homicide and armed robbery.

Witness accounts paint a chilling picture of the events, alleging Routt entered the bar, held patrons at gunpoint, and fatally shot both Gina and Emerson. He then reportedly attempted to shoot a fleeing witness before robbing the cash register and discarding the murder weapon.

Adding another layer of complexity to this local crime story, Routt allegedly confessed to the killings, claiming he did it "more than likely for the money."

However, he also provided another narrative, stating he accidentally shot Gina when she slapped his gun away and then shot Emerson in a panic. The conflicting accounts leave investigators piecing together the true motive behind this senseless act.

Beyond the shock and devastation, the community remembers Gina and Emerson for their infectious kindness and love.

Married just eight months prior, they were described as inseparable and had begun building a bright future together. Their tragic loss has left families and friends heartbroken, seeking solace in cherished memories and the outpouring of community support.

As Routt remains held on a $2 million bond, the legal process unfolds.

While seeking justice for Gina and Emerson, the focus also lies on supporting their loved ones through this unimaginable grief.  As the investigation continues, let us remember Gina and Emerson's vibrant spirits and work towards a future free from such senseless violence.
