Texas Road Rage Shooting: Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Killing Beloved Restaurant Owner, Gregory Sharretts


A Texas man, Messiah Pickens-McCoy (26), faces the consequences of his actions after receiving a 40-year prison sentence for the 2022 road rage shooting death of Gregory Sharretts (67). The incident occurred on Highway 3 in Texas City when both Pickens-McCoy and Sharretts attempted to switch lanes at the same time. Angered by this, Pickens-McCoy allegedly opened fire, fatally wounding Sharretts with a single shot to the head. The harrowing events were captured on Sharretts' own dashcam.

"The video clearly shows the shooting," confirmed the District Attorney's Office. "An officer witnessed the aftermath, pursued the suspect, and ultimately apprehended Pickens-McCoy." Authorities recovered the murder weapon, a 9mm Glock pistol, near the scene.

Sharretts' wife, Dee Byrd-Sharretts, expressed her grief and the family's devastation in an interview with KTRK. "This nightmare took Greg from us in the most senseless way," she stated. "He was a pillar of our community, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled."

Sharretts, known for his passion and dedication, ran the beloved Bayou Bistro restaurant in Bayou Vista for over 16 years. He was admired for his culinary expertise and commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere for his patrons.
