In a recent case, a transgender teenager known as William Whitworth, who identified as "Lilly," has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to plotting a shooting at three different schools.
The 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office revealed that Whitworth, in the process of transitioning to female, received credit for 306 days served since her arrest in March 2023. However, due to her transgender status, it remains unclear whether she would be placed in a male or female facility.
Charged with two counts of first-degree criminal attempt to commit murder, criminal mischief, menacing, and interference with educational institutions, Whitworth's case unfolded in April 2023. Deputies from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call in the Town of Elbert, Colorado.
A family member reported to 911 dispatchers that her "sister" had threatened to carry out a school shooting and struggled with anger issues. Upon reaching the residence, deputies found a chaotic environment, with trash strewn about and containers of half-eaten food, impeding their movement.
Navigating through the clutter, deputies discovered Whitworth sleeping in a room filled with trash and damaged walls. During questioning, she confessed to planning a school shooting, with Timberview Middle School being a primary target, along with Prairie Hills Elementary and Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs.
Whitworth's unsettling manifesto, containing "schizophrenic rants" and references to serial killers, politicians, and entertainers, led to her arrest. The targets mentioned in the manifesto included Timberview Middle School, where she had attended from 2014 to 2016, as well as Prairie Hills Elementary and Pine Creek High School.
This incident raises concerns about the potential harm that could have occurred if not for the timely intervention by law enforcement. The 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office, however, has not provided comments in response to media inquiries.
