Central Florida Man Arrested on Charges of Child Abuse Resulting in Death Of His Daughter

Jacob Kubai, 22, of Central Florida, was arrested on Tuesday and faces four charges in connection with the death of his 4-month-old daughter, Willow Kubai.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office reported the charges on Wednesday: aggravated manslaughter of a child, aggravated child abuse, and two counts of knowingly abusing a child without bodily harm.

Sheriff Grady Judd stated in a press release that the investigation began after Kubai brought Willow to the Bartow Regional Medical Center on February 22nd.

The baby displayed no brain activity and concerning physical injuries. Doctors diagnosed Willow with a fractured skull, hemorrhaging in the brain, bruises, scratches, and broken ribs.

Sadly, the baby died two days later.

An autopsy revealed extensive blunt force trauma injuries to Willow's head, a swollen and hemorrhaged spine, a skull fracture, and ten broken ribs.

Sheriff's deputies interviewed Kubai and his wife, Rebekah. However, neither could provide an explanation for the injuries.

According to Sheriff Judd, Kubai initially claimed he had Willow with him during errands, including dropping his wife off at work and a trip to Walmart.

However, security footage from Walmart showed only Kubai, with no baby present. When confronted with this discrepancy, Kubai allegedly denied having a wife or child.

Sheriff Judd expressed his disbelief at Kubai's alleged actions, stating that normal people cannot comprehend such behavior. The investigation into Willow's death is ongoing.
