Police were first called to the scene for an unresponsive man with a stab wound. However, they soon learned from another call that the man was trying to assault a woman who fought back in self-defense.
"The woman bravely fought back against her attacker and managed to take his weapon," authorities reported. "She used it to defend herself and then went to the hospital for treatment of her injuries."
Sadly, Tranchant died at the hospital. The woman is recovering from her injuries and receiving support.
Sheriff Randy Smith praised the woman's courage and strength, saying, "I want to commend her for fighting back and ask everyone to keep her in their thoughts as she recovers."
