Justice Served After 3 Decades: Man Sentenced for 1989 Murder

A glimmer of justice finally emerged in a decades-old Arizona case.

Thomas Cox, a 60-year-old man, recently pleaded guilty to the brutal murder of 22-year-old Susan Morse in Mesa back in 1989.

The young woman was tragically strangled to death, leaving her case unsolved for years.

Adding another layer of horror, Cox also admitted to sexually assaulting another woman in the same apartment complex just a year later.

Thankfully, advancements in DNA technology proved crucial.

In 2002, the evidence pointed towards the same perpetrator for both crimes.

However, it wasn't until 2022 that even more sophisticated DNA analysis techniques pinpointed Cox, who was residing in Colorado Springs.

A DNA match sealed his fate, leading to his arrest.

The weight of this crime resonated in a statement by the County Attorney: "The defendant enjoyed a full life while the victim's young life was abruptly stolen. It's only fitting that he spends the rest of his days behind bars."

Cox was sentenced to life in prison, with a possibility of parole after serving 25 years.
