His attacker, Myglor Yambuya, just 17 at the time, now faces a life sentence for his heinous crime.
On May 5th, 2023, Renell Charles, was waiting for a bus with friends when Myglor Yambuya approached Renell.
A verbal altercation ensued, and in a moment of horrifying escalation, Yambuya chased Renell down and stabbed him twice.
The second, fatal blow, came as Renell lay defenseless on the ground.
Despite the valiant efforts of medical personnel, Renell succumbed to his injuries.
Following the heinous act, Yambuya displayed a chilling level of premeditation.

He actively tried to evade capture by discarding his clothes and changing SIM cards to hinder the investigation.
He deliberately avoided his residence, further delaying the authorities.
However, his attempt to evade justice proved futile.
Within days, detectives apprehended Yambuya, and he was subsequently charged with murder.

Initially refusing to comment, Yambuya later fabricated a self-defense story.
This claim, however, proved to be a desperate attempt to justify his actions.
However, the overwhelming evidence against him painted a clear picture: a brutal, unprovoked assault that ended a young life.
Yambuya was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years
