Police in northern Ontario have identified a body found shot to death in the woods last week as that of a missing man, officially ruling the case as murder.
The body of 30-year-old Marcel Thoma (pictured above) was discovered on May 23 in a wooded area of Egan Township, near Timmins.
Marcel Thoma, who hailed from Petawawa, had last been heard from on May 17 at approximately 6:34 p.m.
In his final message, he mentioned being 30 minutes west of Matheson.
At that time, he was driving a grey 2005 Volkswagen Jetta with the license plate CXWN343.
Last week, the OPP sought public assistance in locating 43-year-old Lucas MacDonald, who is wanted for unrelated matters but is believed to have crucial information regarding Thoma's death.
"Investigators also believe that he may be in possession of a firearm and has information regarding the death investigation," the police stated on Tuesday.
They warned the public, "If located, use extreme caution, call police, and do not approach."
Lucas MacDonald is described as a 5-foot-8-inch tall male with dark, collar-length hair streaked with some grey, a thin short beard, wearing a ball cap with a bandana underneath, and wrap-around sunglasses.
Anyone with information about this investigation or MacDonald’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
