Newly released footage from Manchester Airport reveals the chaotic moments before a Manchester Police officer was seen kicking a man in the head.
The new footage, obtained exclusively by the Manchester Evening News, provides a look at what happened before the widely shared video.
This new video has sparked a lot of debate and protests since it appeared on social media.
At the start of the footage, a group of people is gathered around a ticket machine in the Terminal 2 car park.
Three police officers—one male and two female—walk toward a man in light blue who is standing near the machine.
He is the man that was repeatedly hit on the head by the officer.
One of the officers tried to restrain him by holding onto his hands.
The male officer then appears to push the man’s head down while the two female officers stand nearby.
Tensions rise as more people from the group move closer to the scene.
A man from the crowd tries to step in, grabbing the male officer in an attempt to free the man held down
This results in a confrontation, with both the officer and the man exchanging punches.
The altercation escalates as the man, now on the ground, continues throwing punches at the officer.
At the same time, the man in light blue, who was struck on the head by the officer, breaks free from the female officer holding him.
He then starts hitting both female officers, who are seen taking blows to their heads and faces.
At one point, one of the female officers is knocked to the ground.
Meanwhile, the male officer points his taser at the man who had been hitting him.
A second man then charges at the officer from behind, throwing punches while the officer continues to hold out his taser.
The struggle continues, and after being tased, the man eventually ends up face down with a woman kneeling beside him.
The officer stands up and aims his taser at the man.
As shown in earlier footage that went viral, the officer then kicks and stamps on the man’s head while he remains on the ground.
This incident has led to a series of protests across the region, with calls for calm from public figures and those directly involved.
On Friday night, The Independent Office for Police Conduct announced that a police constable is under criminal investigation for assault.
However, the IOPC clarified that this does not automatically mean criminal charges will be filed.
The watchdog confirmed that once their investigation is complete, a decision will be made on whether the case should be referred to the Crown Prosecution Service.
