Jamie Busch is now accused of strangling her missing sister, Penny Busch, and hiding her three cell phones in a Dunkin' Donuts dumpster.
This update is according to court documents obtained by
13WHAM.
The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier this week, a
body pulled from the Genesee River in Rush was identified as Penny Busch.
Penny Busch was a missing woman from Honeoye Falls.
Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter announced on Friday that her sister, Jamie Busch, has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence.
The investigation began on October 11, 2023, after Penny Busch was already
missing.
Authorities conducted a welfare check at Penny’s home on Ontario Street and found
suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
A search of the eight-acre property was immediately launched.
The search led investigators to the Genesee River, where her body was discovered.
Jamie Busch, 53, was arrested shortly after the body was identified.
She is being held without bail at the Monroe County Jail and is set to appear in court on Thursday.
Jamie worked as a paraprofessional at the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District and has since been placed on leave.
Superintendent Gene Mancuso issued a statement expressing the district's shock and sadness.
The school assured everyone that they are fully cooperating with law enforcement and prioritizing the safety and well-being of students and staff.
The incident has shaken the local community, with Mayor Rick Milne acknowledging the concern it has raised.
Residents, including neighbor Stanley Worboys, noted the unusual activity during the investigation, which stood out from a typical
missing person case.
Who was Penny Busch?
Penny Busch is survived by her two daughters, son-in-law, and two granddaughters.
She had plans to open a store with her daughters, as mentioned in her obituary.
According to the obituary, her home at 90 Ontario Street, where she passed, was the "dream home" she had purchased just last year.
Penny Busch's daughters expressed that their mother had instilled in them the importance of good manners, respect, and strong moral values.
They are determined to honor her legacy by pursuing her dreams and striving to live with the same kindness and generosity she demonstrated throughout her life.
They also reflected on her joyful spirit: "Penny’s laughter was infectious, and her love was fierce. Her legacy is one of kindness and generosity."
The investigation continues as officials have yet to disclose a motive for the crime.
