The remains of a woman, missing for nearly a year, were recently identified and discovered inside a large suitcase in Seattle.
Washington State police found the suitcase while cleaning up a homeless camp.
On September 27, 2024, the body of 37-year-old Shannon Marie Caslin Reeder was found.
The body was discovered at a homeless camp near a Seattle intersection, according to a press release by Washington State Patrol.
Reeder was last seen in November of 2023.
Authorities confirmed she had been living in the area at the time of her disappearance.
Police said that state and local workers, along with non-profit groups, were assisting encampment residents with clearing debris when the shocking discovery was made.
Her remains were immediately turned over to the medical examiner, and a homicide investigation is now underway.
Shannon's childhood friend, Caitlyn Andrews, shared her concern after Reeder failed to respond to her birthday messages earlier this year, according to FOX 13 Seattle.
“We tried to reach her through Facebook and her cell phones. It’s heartbreaking—it’s hard to believe," Andrews told the outlet.
Reeder, who was a mother, had previously shared a photo on social media with her young daughter in 2015.
Despite facing challenges like losing her own mother at 15, Reeder was described as a “carefree” spirit.
"Shannon was fun-loving, spontaneous, and full of life," Andrews said.
"A new lip gloss or pair of shoes would make her day," she added.
Another close friend, Sheila Brashler, posted a tribute on Facebook, calling Reeder her best friend.
She reflected on their shared memories, saying, "We talked about everything—our dreams, fears, and even the everyday stuff."
“Shannon’s laughter helped me through tough times, and her faith in me pushed me to be my best self," Brashler wrote.
She vowed to honor her memory by living "fully and fearlessly," the way Reeder would have wanted.
The investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are seeking help from anyone who may have seen or contacted Reeder in the past year.
