An Ohio man took his girlfriend's infant daughter and evaded the police in a yellow Camaro, which he ultimately crashed into a house, resulting in the baby's untimely death.
Identified as Johnathan Baker, a 23-year-old, he abducted the 7-month-old child following an argument with the girl's mother in North Baltimore on Tuesday, as reported by the police.
During the argument, Baker expressed suicidal and homicidal thoughts to his girlfriend, claiming that he had already harmed the baby girl.
Fearing for her child's safety, the mother promptly contacted the authorities, reporting the abduction and the threats while also informing them of her belief that Baker was armed.
In response to the report, North Baltimore Police issued an alert to locate Baker and his vehicle. An off-duty police officer spotted the yellow Camaro based on the provided description and began following Baker. The officer then alerted his colleagues, who quickly responded to the scene in Tiffin, racing in police cruisers, according to Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly.
As officers attempted to pull Baker over, he accelerated the Camaro at a dangerously high speed and crashed into a house, causing it to be displaced from its foundation, Chief Pauly stated.
Thankfully, no one was inside the house at the time of the crash.
Officers immediately accessed the Camaro by breaking the back window and retrieved the injured infant, who was bleeding from the head and struggling to breathe.
The Crashed Camaro
Emergency responders provided immediate medical attention to both the baby and Baker at the scene, and they were urgently transported to Tiffin Mercy Hospital via helicopter.
Tragically, the baby girl succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital, while Baker remains in critical condition.
Expressing deep condolences, Chief Pauly conveyed his sympathy to the family, emphasizing that a thorough investigation will be conducted to understand the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
During the investigation, detectives discovered a loaded firearm and two spent cartridges inside the Camaro.
However, it has not been confirmed whether Baker is the biological father of the abducted child.
