Teen Stabs Mother in Florida During A Heated Argument Involving His Life Choices And Their Dog's Health Issues

In Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, a startling incident unfolded as an 18-year-old man stabbed his mother during a heated argument involving his life choices and their dog's health issues.

Law enforcement officials stated that the defendant, Charles C. Soutier, openly confessed to premeditating the act, as documented in the arrest affidavit.

Authorities responded to a distress call from the victim's residence at around 9:46 a.m. on Thursday.

The mother reported that her son had stabbed her.

One of the police officers discovered Soutier approximately 50 yards away from the scene, and according to the provided documents, the 18-year-old approached with his hands raised before being placed in handcuffs.

During the subsequent investigation, Soutier allegedly admitted that the argument erupted when his mother confronted him about their dog defecating on pee pads inside their apartment.

The arrest affidavit revealed that he became infuriated when she told him he needed to get his life together.

Soutier confessed to deliberately selecting the smallest knife from the knife block and placing it in the ninth slot for easy access.

Following the altercation, Soutier joined his mother and brother for dinner, believing that everyone was in a good mood.

The affidavit stated that they returned home and went to bed without incident.

However, the following morning, another argument ensued in the kitchen when Soutier's mother once again insisted he needed to straighten out his life.

She also emphasized the importance of informing her if the dog had diarrhea due to its pancreatitis and required medication.

At this point, Soutier allegedly grabbed the small knife and stabbed his mother in the left shoulder.

According to the affidavit, the mother reacted by throwing a gallon of milk to the floor, screaming, and retreating to the stairs.

In pursuit, Soutier reportedly threatened to kill her as he continued to hold the knife.

The mother managed to reach the upper floor, where her other son applied a tourniquet to her arm.

The affidavit further detailed that Soutier's brother confronted him downstairs, questioning his actions.

Soutier then placed the knife on the counter and left the house.

Officers noted three puncture wounds on the mother's body: one near the base of the back of her neck, an approximately 1-inch deep puncture wound to her left shoulder, and an approximately two-inch deep puncture wound to her left arm.

During interviews, the mother stated that she had engaged in arguments with Soutier the previous night and on Thursday regarding his life choices and their dog.

She recounted that on Thursday morning, while she was making coffee in the kitchen, Soutier entered, started yelling, and grabbed a knife from the kitchen block.

He proceeded to stab her and pursued her up the stairs in an attempt to continue the attack, but was unsuccessful.

According to the affidavit, her other son intervened and applied a makeshift tourniquet to her arm.

Soutier admitted to investigators that he had strategically placed the knife in the kitchen as part of his premeditated plan to either stab his mother upon their return from dinner on Wednesday night or carry out the attack on Thursday.

The affidavit stated, "Charles Soutier initially indicated that he intended to stab his mother to scare her, but later confessed that he would have killed her if she had fought back."

Soutier was charged with attempted felony murder and is currently held without bond in a Volusia County jail.

His initial court appearance took place on Friday, and he does not have legal representation at this time.
