During a news conference, Assistant Chief Andre Wright of the Metropolitan Police Department condemned the act as heinous and appealed to the public for any information. He emphasized the importance of holding the responsible individuals accountable and urged witnesses to come forward.
Surveillance footage captured the moment when two individuals, armed with assault rifles, exited a white four-door sedan and fired upon another vehicle before fleeing the scene. One of the assailants wore a white hoodie with dark pants, while the other was dressed entirely in dark clothing.
The victims' car managed to travel approximately a mile before coming to a stop in a busy commercial area.
In response to the incident, the police announced a reward of up to $25,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for the shooting, which occurred around 11:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023 in the 300 block of 37th Street, Southeast.
While it remains unknown whether the victims were acquainted with their attackers, the police classified the incident as a targeted attack.
