Soby John, A hotel porter who sexually assaulted X Factor star Lucy Spraggan, Quietly Deported To India after An Incomplete Prison Term

A hotel porter who sexually assaulted X Factor star Lucy Spraggan, causing her to quit the talent show, has been deported to India after serving less than half of his 10-year prison sentence, according to MailOnline.

Soby John, the perpetrator, assaulted Spraggan in a luxury hotel room when she was a 20-year-old contestant in the 2012 series of the hit ITV show.

John, then 24 years old and on a student visa from India, gained unauthorized access to Spraggan's room at the Hilton London Metropole using his staff key card before raping her.

The traumatic aftermath of the attack forced Spraggan to withdraw from the X Factor in week three.

The Accused, Soby John

MailOnline has revealed that John was deported back to India on January 30, 2017, after serving less than four years behind bars for the assault.

In a recent interview, Spraggan broke down in tears as she shared how Simon Cowell, the music mogul and X Factor judge, apologized to her after learning about the rape incident during the show.

Cowell's empathy and apology deeply moved Spraggan.

The Home Office declined to comment specifically on John's deportation but emphasized that foreign nationals who commit crimes in the UK will face legal consequences, including deportation when applicable.

During John's sentencing in 2013, the judge acknowledged the severe impact of the assault on Spraggan, causing her significant anxiety and trust issues.

The defense claimed John's cultural differences as a factor, but the judge firmly rejected the argument, emphasizing that non-consensual intercourse is unacceptable regardless of cultural values.

Spraggan has since shared her traumatic experience in her memoir, where she details the sexual assault that occurred after a birthday party.

The assault left her unable to continue on the show due to the strong side effects of medication she was prescribed.

She expressed frustration with the lack of aftercare and support she received following the trial.

Simon Cowell expressed his support for Spraggan, calling her "authentic, talented, and brave" and commending her efforts to tell her story and bring about positive change.

Both ITV and the production company Fremantle expressed sympathy and acknowledged the need for improved aftercare processes in response to the distressing event.
