Trio Apprehended for Abducting A Vice Chancellor of a Private University In, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria

 

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended Prince Thursday Okon, a former domestic worker, along with two other individuals, in connection with the abduction of a private university's Vice Chancellor within the state.

According to the state's Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, the arrest came after Okon collaborated with his accomplices, Saviour Sunday Luke and Richard Friday, to kidnap his former employer after he was dismissed due to alleged criminal activities.

The police also successfully recovered the remaining ransom amount and the Toyota Corolla that was used during the kidnapping operation. 

"On April 14, 2023, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Vice Chancellor of a private university in the state was abducted while on his way home," explained the Commissioner of Police.

"Two days later, on the 16th, our Anti-Kidnapping Squad swiftly and discreetly carried out an investigation leading to the arrest of Prince Thursday Okon, a former domestic staff member who was sacked due to his involvement in criminal activities. 

The operation also resulted in the apprehension of his accomplices, Saviour Sunday Luke and Richard Friday, all residents of Ikot Ebam Village in Mkpan Enin LGA."

During the operation, a sum of one million, two hundred and seventy thousand naira in cash (about $1200) constituting part of the paid ransom, was successfully retrieved. 

Additionally, two hundred and fifty thousand naira was found in one of the suspect's bank account. The Toyota Corolla used in the abduction was also successfully recovered. 

The Vice Chancellor has since been reunited with his family.
