Woman Charged with Murder of A Baby Boy in Lancashire, England

A woman faces murder charges in connection with the death of a baby in Hapton, Lancashire.

On March 1, 2022, police were called to a home in the village after receiving reports of a baby boy experiencing a medical emergency. The nine-and-a-half-month-old child was rushed to the hospital for treatment but tragically passed away on March 5.

During the investigation, a 60-year-old woman from Haslingden and a 78-year-old man from Burnley were initially arrested on suspicion of Section 18 Assault. Subsequently, they were also arrested on suspicion of murder.

However, the 78-year-old man has since been released without charge after further examination.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, the police have decided to charge Karen Foster, a 61-year-old woman with no fixed address, for the murder of the baby.

She will be appearing before Blackburn Magistrates' Court for the case. In addition to the murder charge, Foster also faces a separate S47 assault charge related to a one-year-old girl in Hapton on March 22, 2019.

It's important to note that Foster is not related to either of the two victims, and the two children involved are not related to each other.
