A 56-year-old man, Mr. Ọkpara, was arrested in Anambra State for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old daughter multiple times. The incident occurred at his home in Fegge, Onitsha.
According to Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, the media aide to the State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, the suspect started abusing his daughter immediately after her mother's death three years ago.
A concerned person noticed the girl limping, and that was how they discovered the abuse.
The victim revealed that her father had been assaulting her every night, threatening to harm her if she told anyone.
The girl stated that the abuse started after her mother's death, and her father prevented other family members and friends from getting close to her.
Mr. Ọkpara denied the accusation, claiming her injuries were from a fall, but hospital tests disproved his defense.
Hon. Obinabo promised to ensure justice is served and deployed staff to investigate the case.
The suspect will face trial in the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka.
