In a heartbreaking incident that occurred over five years ago, a 29-year-old woman from Florida is now facing the consequences of her actions.
The 15th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Howard K. Coates Jr. ordered the sentencing, demanding that Arya Singh serves 14 years in a state correctional institution.
She was charged with first-degree premeditated murder for throwing the days-old baby, whom authorities referred to as "Baby June," into the Boynton Beach Inlet.
However, she later reached a plea deal with prosecutors, admitting to lesser charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child and abuse of a dead human body.
The sentencing includes 14 years for the manslaughter charge and 10 years for the abuse charge, to be served concurrently, with credit given for the time she has already served.
The Office of State Attorney Dave Aronberg stated that the sentence provides long-overdue justice for Baby June.
The tragedy unfolded when Singh, after giving birth alone in a hotel room, did not seek any help or medical attention for her child.
Instead, she disposed of the baby's body in the Boynton Inlet, hoping to hide her actions.
The case remained unsolved for several years until investigators received a breakthrough in June 2022.
DNA analysis and Google location data led to Singh's arrest, and she eventually admitted to giving birth to the baby girl and discarding her in the ocean.
The law enforcement officers involved in the investigation found the case emotionally challenging due to the heartbreaking nature of the crime.
The court is scheduled to proceed with formal sentencing on September 8, as the family and friends of the victim seek closure and justice for Baby June.
