In Sanford, Florida, two parents have been hit with manslaughter charges following the discovery of their 3-year-old toddler floating in a nearby pond, as per the police's report.
According to FOX 35 in Orlando, the Sanford Police Department received a call about a missing 3-year-old boy around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. This happened at the Crosby at Towne Center apartments. The responding officers were informed that the boy had autism, and his father, Lester Ortiz, mentioned that he had last seen him 30 minutes before the police's arrival.
The boy's mother, Barbara Luiz, recounted to the officers that her son was in the apartment's living room while she was in the bathroom around 12:40 p.m. At one point, she heard a door open and close and had her teenage daughter investigate. Unfortunately, the teenager didn't realize that the toddler had wandered off, and the parents began searching for him.
It was discovered that the toddler had gone missing at least three times before, and each time, a neighbor found the boy and took him to the development's front office. The police also noted the strong smell of freshly smoked marijuana in the apartment, which was in disarray.
Shortly after their arrival, the officers noticed an unfamiliar object in a nearby pond behind the apartment, which turned out to be the child. Both Luiz and Ortiz were taken into custody and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office has yet to provide a booking photo of Ortiz in response to Fox News Digital's request.
