Josh Duggar's request for a new trial in his child pornography case has come to an end, as per court documents obtained by Fox News Digital this week. With the appeal's conclusion, the former star of "19 Kids and Counting" will serve his 12½-year sentence, keeping him behind bars until 2032.
The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit formally closed the case on October 5, following the denial of his appeal filed by Duggar's lawyer in 2021.
In December 2021, a federal jury in Arkansas found the 35-year-old Duggar guilty of charges related to the receipt and possession of child pornography. He received his 151-month prison sentence in May 2022 and was subsequently transferred from the Washington County Jail in Arkansas to FCI Seagoville in Texas.
The investigation into Duggar began when Little Rock Police detectives traced child sexual abuse material to a computer connected to him. During the trial, investigators testified that images depicting the sexual abuse of children, including toddlers, were downloaded in 2019 on a computer at a car dealership owned by Duggar.
Duggar's legal team argued that the statements he made to investigators during the dealership search should not have been admissible in court due to the absence of his attorney.
Earlier this year, his sentence was extended by two months, resulting in his release date now set for October 2032. During this time, he spent a period in solitary confinement following the alleged discovery of a contraband cellphone.
The allegations against Duggar date back to 2006 when a family friend reported to authorities that he had allegedly molested four of his sisters. However, the investigation ceased due to the statute of limitations. These allegations resurfaced in 2015, leading to the cancellation of "19 Kids and Counting." Duggar publicly acknowledged marital infidelity and a pornography addiction and sought treatment.
Josh Duggar is married to Anna Duggar, and they have seven children together.
