Montana Tragedy: Mother of Two Faces Charges in Fatal Hit-and-Run of Native American Woman

A tragic incident in Montana has left the community reeling as a mother of two, Sunny Kathrinne White, faces a series of serious charges following an alleged hit-and-run that resulted in the death of Mika Josephine Westwolf, a 22-year-old member of the Blackfeet tribe.

The authorities have outlined five felony charges against White, including vehicular homicide while under the influence, related to the fatal accident that took place in March 2023.

According to the affidavit, the unfortunate event occurred early in the morning when Westwolf was walking along Highway 93. She was struck by a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, suffering from multiple blunt force injuries.

Law enforcement officers later identified a gold 2008 Cadillac Escalade with damages consistent with the debris found at the accident site, leading to the arrest of White.

In the aftermath of the incident, White's alleged state of inebriation, coupled with the discovery of controlled substances in her vehicle and her positive drug test, has added a complicated layer to the case.

As the legal process unfolds, the mourning community continues to honor Westwolf's memory, with her family advocating for the "Mika Matters" movement, shedding light on the ongoing issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP).

Despite White being released on bond, the case remains complex and unresolved, prompting discussions about accountability, awareness, and the protection of Indigenous communities across the nation.
