A 39-year-old man faces murder charges six years after his father's disappearance, as per Toledo, Ohio police. Timothy Darrow stands accused of killing his father, Alvin Darrow, who was 63 years old at the time. The incident allegedly occurred on July 27, 2017, but Alvin's body has never been found.
On that fateful day, Alvin and his other son, Jeremy Darrow, were at a marina, working on their boat. Alvin left to retrieve some tools from his home on Toledo's north side, according to a missing persons report. When he didn't return, Jeremy tried calling him multiple times but received no response.
Jeremy Darrow heard from his brother, Timothy Darrow, who claimed that an argument had erupted between him and their father on his way back with the tools. Alvin had returned home where Timothy was when a couple of men came to check a motorcycle. These men were apparently upset with Alvin, accusing him of stealing one of their bikes. The report states that the two Darrows ran when they learned that the men had guns.
Timothy told Jeremy that he and their father had separated, with Alvin fleeing on a motorcycle. He claimed the last time he saw his father was around 7 p.m. Jeremy, however, told the police that he had doubts about his brother's story from the beginning. He mentioned that Timothy's account kept changing, and his primary concern seemed to be the stolen bike rather than their father's whereabouts.
Police noted that Alvin Darrow's personal belongings were left at home, and he hadn't arranged for anyone to take care of his dog, which was uncharacteristic of him. Jeremy reported his father missing the following day, on July 28, 2017.
Cold case investigators persisted in their efforts, leading to Tuesday's indictment. Another man, 50-year-old Michael Johnson, faces obstruction of justice charges. Johnson's indictment specifies the alleged crime occurred between December 17, 2017, and January 1, 2021.
At the time of his indictment, Timothy Darrow was already in jail on an unrelated felonious assault charge, while officers continue their search for Johnson. Police have not disclosed how they believe Timothy Darrow killed his father.
The Darrow family had long suspected foul play in Alvin's disappearance. Cheryl Bonk, Alvin's sister, expressed her concern back when he went missing and voiced the family's desire to find him to bring closure to the situation.
Cheryl Bonk stated, "We want this to end. We want him found so that we can bury him properly and have closure in this situation." Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
