Anger Management Included in Post-plea Sentence For Lawyer Seen Slapping Attorney During Fight Outside Courthouse


 A Connecticut attorney who was caught on video slapping another attorney outside a courthouse has been sentenced to probation. Robert Serafinowicz, 44, pleaded no contest to assault and received a suspended sentence of almost a year in jail. He will also serve two years of probation.

The incident happened on September 7, 2022, in front of the Derby Superior Court in Derby, Connecticut. Video footage shows Serafinowicz and defense attorney Edward Gavin engaged in a heated verbal argument. 

During the argument, Serafinowicz can be seen and heard slapping Gavin across the face.

Serafinowicz has a history of disciplinary issues with the state bar. In 2015, he was suspended from practicing law for 120 days for making disparaging remarks about a judge. 

He was also suspended from practicing law for 120 days in 2017. In addition, he was temporarily suspended from practicing in 2013.

As part of his plea deal, Serafinowicz has agreed to undergo mental health treatment for anger management.
