Arrest Made in Assault on Former Senator Martha McSally During Jog in Nebraska

In Nebraska, a suspect identified as 25-year-old Dominic Henton from Papillion was arrested after former Republican Arizona Sen. Martha McSally reported a sexual assault incident while jogging along the Missouri River on the Iowa-Nebraska border. The Council Bluffs Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Henton on one count of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse in connection to the incident. Images released by investigators show Henton following McSally on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge and the trail. The assault occurred on the River's Edge Service Road, south of the I-480 bridge underpass. McSally fought off the attacker and chased him into a brushy area near the I-480 bridge, losing sight of him before the police arrived.

Described as a transient White male frequenting the riverfront area on both sides of the Iowa-Nebraska border, Henton was apprehended in Omaha. McSally, a survivor of previous sexual assault, shared the details in an Instagram video, recounting the bear hug attack and her decision to fight back. Despite the traumatic experience, McSally asserted that she was okay. In 2019, she previously disclosed being raped by a superior officer while serving in the Air Force during a Senate hearing on military sexual assault allegations.

McSally, who served in Congress and was appointed to the Senate after John McCain's passing, lost in a 2020 special election to Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly.
