Oklahoma City police have arrested Jaydee Watts, 44, following an investigation into the death of her 72-year-old mother, Lynda Watts, who had dementia. Authorities allege that Jaydee intentionally provided a firearm to her mother, leading to the elderly woman taking her own life on September 10.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Jaydee, acting as her mother's primary caregiver, had verbally abused Lynda, as captured by a Ring camera inside their home.
The video reportedly showed Jaydee berating her mother and threatening her before demonstrating the use of a handgun, eventually instructing Lynda to "do with it what you will." Tragically, Lynda fired two shots, resulting in her death.
Oklahoma City Police Department's news alert stated that Jaydee Watts suggested her mother take her own life, and after the incident, Jaydee called a hospice worker, informing them of the suicide.
The hospice worker promptly contacted the police. Detectives arriving at the scene found Lynda Watts deceased. During an interview at the police headquarters, Jaydee Watts expressed the challenges of being a 24-7 caregiver.
A warrant for Jaydee's arrest was issued, and she faced charges of Felony Murder in the Second Degree by Caretaker Abuse and Kidnapping. Booked on a $1 million bond, Jaydee was later released. Lynda Watts' tragic death occurred a week before her 73rd birthday.
