Former "Officer of the Month" in Florida Accused of Strangling Ex-Girlfriend

A former "Officer for the Month" in central Florida now faces serious charges after breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment and assaulting her. The incident took place at a nightclub in Gainesville, Florida, where they unexpectedly crossed paths.

The Gainesville Police Department revealed that Officer Christopher Bivins met his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend at Simons nightclub while he was off duty. The two share a child together.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 35 Orlando, Bivins sent the victim a text indicating his presence at the club and even paid for a section for her and her friends. Initially, they had a pleasant evening, but things took a dark turn later when they argued and left separately.

Upon arriving at her apartment, the victim received multiple calls about someone trying to access her apartment complex. She noticed Bivins' black pickup truck across the street, and upon entering her apartment, she found it in disarray. The front door was left open, and the door frame showed visible damage.

Inside, Bivins confronted her. According to her account, he forcibly grabbed her neck, causing her to fall to the floor. He proceeded to kneel on top of her and strangle her, nearly causing her to lose consciousness. Terrified, she thought about her child and her life being at risk for no reason. Eventually, Bivins released his grip, allowing the victim to escape to her mother's home.

When responding officers caught up with Bivins, he claimed to be drunk and only remembered parking his truck across the street from the victim's apartment complex. He now faces charges of battery by strangulation, burglary, grand theft, and property damage.

In August, Bivins had been named "Officer of the Month" by the Gainesville Police Department. Last week, he was honored for his outstanding work and dedication at the City of Gainesville T.E.A.M. Awards Ceremony. The Gainesville Police Department has not yet responded to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
