A former volunteer cheerleading coach at Pine Forest High School has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of fraud and theft after allegedly misappropriating thousands of dollars from the cheerleading program.
Cedriahanna An'trnice Brooks-Hill, 28, was arrested and charged with 10 counts of fraud-swindle and one count of felony grand theft. According to an Escambia County Sheriff's Office arrest report, Brooks-Hill allegedly stole over $7,000 from the Pine Forest High School cheerleading program.
The alleged misappropriation occurred during Brooks-Hill's time as a volunteer cheerleading coach at Pine Forest High School. The arrest report details several instances where Brooks-Hill allegedly mishandled funds raised by the cheerleading team.
In one instance, the cheerleading team raised $4,800 during a cheer camp. The money was reportedly given to Brooks-Hill, who was responsible for turning it in to the school bookkeeper. However, the bookkeeper claims she never received the money.
Another instance involves $2,500 that was sent to Brooks-Hill through CashApp by the junior varsity cheerleading coach. This money was also supposed to be turned in to the bookkeeper, but Brooks-Hill allegedly kept it for herself.
The alleged misappropriation of funds was discovered when the varsity cheerleading coach attempted to pay the colleges that presented the cheer clinic. When she found that the account was empty, she reported the incident to the school administration.
An investigation by the Escambia County Schools' investigator revealed that Brooks-Hill had allegedly been mishandling funds for some time. The investigator interviewed multiple people involved, including the varsity and junior varsity coaches, the bookkeeper, and Brooks-Hill herself.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, Brooks-Hill was arrested and charged with 10 counts of fraud-swindle and one count of felony grand theft. She is currently being held in the Escambia County Jail without bond.
The alleged misappropriation of funds by a Pine Forest High School cheerleading coach highlights the importance of financial safeguards for extracurricular activities. Schools and organizations should implement clear policies and procedures for handling funds to prevent theft and misuse.
