Overweight Killer, Dimitri Fricano, Released From Prison Due To The Facility's Inability to Accommodate His Specific Dietary Requirements

After serving two years of a 30-year sentence for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Erika Preti, Dimitri Fricano, an overweight inmate, has been released from a Turin jail in Italy due to the prison's inability to accommodate his low-calorie diet needs.

Fricano, who stabbed Preti 57 times during a violent argument about spilled crumbs in June 2017, had seen a significant weight gain from 120kg to 200kg while incarcerated. A Turin court has ruled that he can complete his sentence under house arrest at his parents' home, citing the prison's inability to provide the necessary dietary requirements for his health.

The decision has sparked outrage from Preti's parents, with her father, Fabrizio Preti, expressing dismay over the lenient sentence. Fricano's release, deemed a "stab to the heart," has left the grieving family disillusioned, emphasizing the irreplaceable loss of their daughter.

Apart from the weight gain, Fricano's prison habits included smoking around 100 cigarettes a day, contributing to his deteriorating health. The court justified the decision, stating that his physical condition, marked by difficulty walking, posed a danger to his life, particularly due to cardiovascular risks.

Originally from Biella, Italy, Fricano initially denied the murder, concocting a false story of a violent burglary. However, after a month, he confessed, revealing that the fatal argument had escalated when Preti allegedly struck him with a stone paperweight. Expressing remorse during an interview, Fricano admitted to begging forgiveness from Preti's parents and claimed he would have preferred to be the one who died. While uncertain about the exact number of stabbings, he conveyed profound sorrow for his actions and detailed the toll on his life, including confinement to a wheelchair and the inability to perform basic self-care tasks.
