This week, a gruesome discovery unfolded at Breezy Point Beach in New York City, as the police responded to a call at 12:21 p.m. on Friday regarding a dismembered human torso, devoid of a head or arms, found on the sandy shores of Queens.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) reported that the "unidentified" torso had "attached legs," and an ongoing investigation is underway to determine the cause of death, with the Medical Examiner tasked to provide further insights once the family is properly notified of the deceased's identity.
This chilling incident follows a recent case in Los Angeles where a man was arrested after a dismembered torso was discovered in a dumpster. According to LAPD Detective Efren Gutierrez, human body parts were found near Ventura Boulevard and Rubio Avenue.
Upon responding to the scene, officers identified a dismembered female wrapped in a plastic bag just outside the dumpster, a method potentially employed by the murder suspect to delay identification, as explained by Gutierrez.
Surveillance footage led investigators to Samuel Haskell, who shared a home with his wife, Mei, and their three children. Haskell was taken into custody on suspicion of murder after blood evidence and other incriminating items were discovered in the residence.
Tragically, Mei and her parents, Gaoshan Li and Yanxiang Wang, have been missing since November 6, and Haskell now faces three counts of murder in connection with their deaths, as confirmed by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.
He is currently held without bond. District Attorney George Gascón expressed solidarity with the victims' loved ones, pledging an unwavering commitment to ensuring justice in the face of these shocking and gruesome crimes.
