18-year-old Carlos Carrazana Ricardo was tragically shot and killed in Baltimore while meeting up for a Facebook Marketplace purchase. The incident occurred on November 26th, 2023.
Marques Harris, also 18, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and multiple handgun violations. Police believe Harris was the seller involved in the online transaction.
Ricardo's body was found lying on the street with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to the University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center, but unfortunately, did not survive.
Friends and family remember Ricardo as a kind and passionate young man who loved football and cars. He is survived by his brother, parents, step-brother, extended family, and many close friends.
Details surrounding the incident are still emerging. According to charging documents, Ricardo and a friend traveled 80 miles for the car purchase. After deciding not to buy the vehicle, Ricardo and his friend attempted to leave, but were shot at.
Ricardo's friend took the wheel of the car and drove away, but eventually crashed while seeking help.
Police traced the phone number used for the Marketplace meetup back to Harris. Ricardo's friend identified Harris as the shooter, leading to his arrest. A handgun was recovered from Harris' home.
Harris claims he heard gunshots after the sale fell through. He is due in court on January 3rd for a preliminary hearing.
The Baltimore Police Department has not yet released further details.
Ricardo's school principal, Dr. Justin Reese, expressed condolences to the family and friends, stating that the loss is being deeply felt within the school community.

Councilman John Bullock expressed his sympathy for the family and highlighted the tragic nature of the incident, especially considering Ricardo's innocence.
Bullock further emphasized the need for continued efforts to address violence within the city.
