A Scary Night in Richmond: DoorDash Driver Carjacked by Juvenile and Adult

A DoorDash driver's night took a terrifying turn in late November when she was carjacked at gunpoint by two individuals, one a young boy and the other an adult male. Deon Smith, a home healthcare nurse, was delivering food in South Richmond when she was approached by the two suspects.

The incident happened around 12:30 am on November 30th, near the 400 block of Westover Hills Boulevard. According to police reports, the suspects, described as "a juvenile male of Richmond" and 18-year-old Jahlia Henley of Goochland County, threatened Smith with a gun and demanded her car keys.

"I thought he was asking for money, but then I saw the gun," Smith told WTVR. "I couldn't believe it. He was so young, and he was talking about shooting me!"

Frightened but determined, Smith complied with the suspects' demands. They took her car and fled the scene. Thankfully, the vehicle was later found crashed in a rural area in Henrico County, with no serious injuries to the suspects.

Both Henley and the juvenile have been charged with carjacking and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. While Henley has declined to comment, the juvenile's attorney could not be reached for comment.

The carjacking left Smith shaken and without a vehicle. As a home healthcare nurse, her car is essential for her job, allowing her to care for her patients and support herself and her 10-year-old daughter.

To help Smith get back on her feet, her friends have started a GoFundMe campaign. The goal is to raise enough money to help her replace her car and cover any other expenses she may have incurred as a result of the carjacking.

"Because she currently has no car, she is unable to get to her jobs, which makes it challenging to support herself and her 10-year-old daughter," the GoFundMe page reads. "All money raised from this will go directly to Deon so she can get to jobs, and support herself and her daughter."

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that delivery drivers face on the job. We wish Deon Smith a speedy recovery and hope that the community can come together to support her during this difficult time.
