Colorado Man, Cain Gallardo Sentenced to 40 Years for Beating Infant Daughter to Death

A 24-year-old Colorado man, Cain Gallardo, will spend the next four decades behind bars after being convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend's 9-month-old daughter, Gianna Rosales, in 2020.

Gallardo was found guilty of child abuse resulting in death after a jury trial in October. The sentence was handed down by a state judge in Denver on Friday, with Gallardo receiving credit for roughly 2.5 years already served.

Gianna was brought to the Denver Health Medical Center in August 2020 with severe injuries and died the following day. An autopsy revealed multiple blunt force injuries, including to the head, as the cause of death.

Following an extensive investigation, Gallardo, described as the boyfriend of Gianna's mother, was arrested in May 2021. Her father, Anthony Rosales, had previously reported suspected abuse to authorities, but no conclusive evidence emerged at the time.

Jolene Beyer-LaCrue, Gianna's mother, also faces charges of child abuse resulting in death and is scheduled for trial in February 2024.

Over 30 members of Gianna's family attended the sentencing hearing, many wearing shirts demanding "Justice for Gianna." While expressing disappointment that the maximum sentence wasn't imposed, Anthony Rosales emphasized the importance of protecting children and the tragic loss of his daughter.
