Convicted Murderer Derek Chauvin Was Stabbed in Prison by Inmate Allegedly Seeking Revenge

Derek Chauvin, the former police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, was recently stabbed multiple times in a federal prison by another inmate.

John Turscak, 52, is accused of attacking Chauvin in the law library of Federal Correctional Institution Tucson on Nov. 24. Authorities say Turscak stabbed Chauvin approximately 22 times with an "improvised knife," causing serious injuries.

Turscak is serving a 30-year sentence for racketeering and conspiring to commit murder as part of the Mexican Mafia. He allegedly told authorities that he attacked Chauvin on Black Friday as a symbol of the Black Lives Matter movement and the "Black Hand" symbol associated with the Mexican Mafia.

Chauvin is currently serving a 21-year sentence in federal prison for violating Floyd's civil rights. He is also serving a concurrent 22 1/2-year sentence in state prison for murder and manslaughter.

v
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has condemned the prison attack, saying that Chauvin "should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation or violence."
