In a response to a revised lawsuit filed by Gabby Petito's parents, Christopher and Roberta Laundrie maintain their innocence, claiming they did not know about their son's murder of Petito or the location of her body.
Petito's parents, Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt, allege in the lawsuit that Brian Laundrie informed his parents he had "murdered" Petito on August 29th, 2021, and requested legal assistance. They further claim the Laundries knew about the murder and body location but remained silent.
The Laundries, however, deny these allegations. They assert they were unaware of Petito's death until her official missing person report on September 11th, 2021. Authorities believe Brian Laundrie killed Petito on August 27th and arrived at his parents' home on September 1st in Petito's van. Her remains were discovered on September 19th in Wyoming.
The lawsuit initially filed in March 2022 accused Brian Laundrie of informing his parents about Petito's killing and alleged that the Laundries, despite being aware, did not inform Petito's family and attempted to help their son flee the country.
The updated complaint reiterates these accusations, emphasizing the Laundries' knowledge of the murder and the body's location, claiming they withheld this information even while enjoying a vacation.
The revised lawsuit also alleges that Brian Laundrie used Petito's phone to send messages portraying her as alive after her death. Additionally, it claims he sent a message to Petito's grandfather using her name, suggesting intent to deceive.
Brian Laundrie later died by suicide upon returning home to Florida.
