A 25-year-old man accused of brutally killing his 35-year-old girlfriend and her 14-year-old daughter in their Florida home has been denied bond.
Jean Pierre Ojeda Salazar is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder with a weapon, for the slayings of Alejandra Cabrejo and her daughter, Mariana.
Prosecutors argued against releasing Salazar on bond, citing the violent nature of the crime and his alleged attempt to flee the state. Judge Catherine Catlin agreed, stating that Salazar "should not be free in our society."
According to police, the murders occurred on November 26th following a heated argument between Salazar and Alejandra Cabrejo. He allegedly stabbed her multiple times, and then attacked Mariana when she tried to help her mother.
Salazar fled the scene in a white sedan, which he later abandoned. He was eventually arrested in Maryland one day later.
The Cabrejo family has been left devastated by the tragedy. Alejandra had moved to the U.S. from Colombia two years ago to provide a better life for her daughters. She is survived by her 4-year-old daughter.
The Tampa Police Department is continuing to investigate the case.
