A heartbreaking incident unfolded Wednesday as Ian Cramer, son of US Senator Kevin Cramer, led police on a chase in a stolen vehicle, resulting in the tragic death of a sheriff's deputy.
Senator Cramer revealed in a statement that his 42-year-old son suffers from severe mental health issues and experienced an episode while with his mother. He insisted on visiting his late brother's grave, prompting his mother to take him to the hospital. However, he escaped in a stolen car while she was briefly away.
His sister tracked the phone in the stolen vehicle, leading police to Ian in Mercer County. When approached, he fled, triggering a high-speed chase. He lost control and collided head-on with a parked patrol car deploying tire deflation devices.
The impact pushed the patrol car into the deputy, who was tragically killed. While Ian is now in custody, the family grieves the loss of the officer and asks for prayers for healing for Ian.
