A Texas man who brutally stabbed his grandmother to death has been sentenced to two life sentences in prison.
Marco Cobos, 24, pleaded guilty to murder and aggravated robbery in exchange for the two life sentences. He will not be eligible for parole for at least 60 years.
Cobos killed Etta Nugent, 75, in her home outside of Houston in May 2019. He stabbed her at least 13 times with two knives.
After killing Nugent, Cobos ransacked her house, stole her car, and went to sleep at a motel. Nugent's son found her body the next day and called the police.
Cobos was arrested and confessed to the killing. He said that Nugent had pleaded for her life and told him that she was a mother and grandmother with an ailing husband.
Prosecutors said that Cobos's crime was "truly horrendous" and that he "will now spend decades, and hopefully the rest of his life, in prison."
Nugent's family said that she was a "kind, gentle, and generous woman" who lived her life with unwavering dedication to her faith, family, and friends."
