Unsolved: 6 Years On, New Reward Offered in Case of 17-Year-Old High School Senior, Maggie Long, Who Was Burned Alive at Home
Six years after the tragic death of Maggie Long, a 17-year-old high school senior from Bailey, Colorado, in a devastating home burglary, local authorities are urging anyone with crucial information to step forward.
The Park County Sheriff’s Office, along with federal and local investigators, commemorated the sixth anniversary of Long's murder on December 1, 2023, by offering a $75,000 reward to aid in solving the case.
The Sheriff’s Office honored Maggie Long’s memory, highlighting the heartbreaking incident when she was found murdered at her home in 2017. Initial reports indicated a house fire following a disturbance within the residence, leading to the discovery of Long's remains by fire rescue personnel.
Subsequent investigations by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office classified her death as a homicide, revealing signs of a struggle before the fire erupted.
During the burglary, several items, including firearms, ammunition, a safe, and precious figurines, were stolen from Long's home. Park County Sheriff Tom McGraw emphasized the relentless pursuit of justice, urging the community to come forward with any relevant information that could assist in resolving the case.
While initially seen as an opportunistic crime, authorities are now considering the possibility of a hate crime against an Asian American due to the nature of Long’s brutal death. Suspects allegedly involved in the break-in, depicted in released sketches, remain at large.
Before her tragic demise, Long had left school to prepare for an evening concert, but she never made it there. Her family continues to seek closure, pleading for justice for their beloved Maggie Long, whose untimely death remains unsolved.
Long's sister, Connie Long, emphasized the brutality of her sister's murder and appealed to the community for assistance. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Maggie Long Task Force tip line or email anonymously to support the investigation and bring closure to the Long family.
