A Chicago mom lost her life tragically early Tuesday morning after being struck by a car following a minor accident on the Dan Ryan Expressway. Stephanie N. Johnson, identified by family, had exited her vehicle after the initial crash when another car hit her.
The incident occurred around 2:30 AM in the southbound lanes at 18th Street. The Illinois State Police are still investigating the crash and haven't made any arrests yet.
Devastated by their loss, Johnson's family is pleading for the public's help in identifying the hit-and-run driver. "We're heartbroken and desperate for answers," Camille Jadé, Stephanie's cousin, shared. "If anyone witnessed the accident, please come forward and help our family during this difficult time."
Stephanie's mother, also named Stephanie, spoke with her daughter just hours before the fatal crash. "I couldn't believe it," she told reporters, struggling to hold back tears. "It was like a punch to the gut."
Jadé described her cousin as a "family princess" who was passionate about giving back to the community through various projects throughout the year. She was also a talented dancer who brought joy to everyone around her.
The loss leaves a huge void in the lives of Stephanie's children. "They're going to miss their mom terribly," Stephanie's mother shared, grief etched on her face.
