North Carolina Man, Eric Carroll Parker Sentenced for Helping Wife Evade Justice in Workplace Shooting
A North Carolina man faces prison time for his role in the aftermath of a chilling workplace shooting three years ago. Eric Carroll Parker, 64, was sentenced to 48 to 70 months in prison for assisting his wife, Tangela L. Parker, in evading authorities after she fatally shot a co-worker over a seemingly trivial workplace dispute.
The tragedy unfolded in 2020 at TCS Designs, a furniture plant in Hickory, North Carolina. According to reports, Tangela Parker, 52, and the victim, 51-year-old Phelifa Michelle Marlow, had a minor argument about moving tables. This seemingly insignificant disagreement escalated to Tangela Parker being sent home for three days without pay.
Witnesses described Tangela Parker returning to the plant enraged, verbally abusing Marlow, and ultimately shooting her twice with a .357 Magnum revolver. The victim was struck once in the chest and once in the head as she attempted to flee for her life.
Following the shooting, Eric Parker allegedly helped his wife escape the scene. They fled North Carolina, using fake names and a stolen license plate to evade capture for six months. During this time, they lived in their minivan, working odd jobs to survive. Their run from justice ended in 2021 when they were apprehended in Arizona on fugitive warrants.
Tangela Parker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is currently serving a 20 to 25-year prison sentence. Eric Parker, while acknowledging his wrongdoing, expressed continued love for his wife and hopes for their reunion upon her release.
This case highlights the devastating consequences of workplace violence and the lengths individuals may go to protect loved ones, even when those actions involve aiding in a cover-up. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking help and reporting potential threats to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
