Parents Arrested After 30 Years for Son's Cold Case Murder

Victor and Megan Turner

In a shocking turn of events, the parents of a young boy brutally murdered in 1989 have been arrested after more than three decades of unanswered questions. Five-year-old Justin Turner's body was found stuffed in a camper on his own family's property, sparking a decades-long cold case filled with twists and turns.

Victor and Megan Turner, the boy's father and stepmother, were apprehended and charged with capital murder earlier this week. New technology and renewed investigative efforts finally brought justice to Justin after years of unanswered prayers and community outrage.

On a seemingly ordinary March day in 1989, young Justin vanished on his way to school. While his stepmother claimed illness prevented her from accompanying him, conflicting reports and strange behavior raised suspicion. After a frantic two-day search, the unthinkable happened: Victor Turner discovered his son's lifeless body hidden in a camper on their own property.

The autopsy revealed a horrific truth: Justin had been sexually assaulted and strangled. While initial charges against Megan were later dropped due to lack of evidence, Victor's peculiar reactions and suspicious inquiries kept him under the radar.

For over 30 years, Justin's case remained a chilling stain on the community. However, in 2021, the sheriff's office's Cold Case Unit reopened the investigation, equipped with modern forensic advancements unavailable in 1989. These new tools proved crucial in revisiting existing evidence and piecing together the missing puzzle.

"We kept pushing and plugging and pulling to finally get what we needed to make an arrest," Sheriff Duane Lewis stated, highlighting the significance of new technology in cracking the case.

Adding to the chilling nature of the case is the Turners' apparent lack of concern for their son's death. They reportedly moved away and severed ties with the community, their silence raising even more questions.

"Isn't that strange? I never got one phone call, one phone call from his daddy or stepmother (saying) 'What are y'all doing about my son's death?' Not one," Sheriff Lewis remarked, emphasizing the couple's suspicious disregard for the tragedy.

While no punishment can truly bring Justin back, his parents' arrest finally offers a semblance of closure for his family and the community. This case serves as a stark reminder that even the most cold-blooded crimes can eventually be solved, thanks to dedicated investigators and technological advancements.
