Law Enforcement Fatally Shoots Wanted Man at Central Pennsylvania Gas Station, After They Say He Pointed a Gun at Them

In York County, a 37-year-old man, Richard Benjamin Bolen, wanted by the police for brandishing a firearm earlier in the week, met a tragic end at a Hanover gas station. The Pennsylvania State Police reported that upon spotting Bolen at a Sunoco, police entered, prompting him to flee through the back door. Additional officers awaited him, leading to a confrontation at the front of the store where Bolen brandished a handgun. In response, police fired multiple shots, resulting in his demise, as detailed in the state police's press release.

The York Criminal Investigation Unit and Troop J Major Case Team from the Pennsylvania State Police swiftly initiated an investigation into the incident. Officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duty during the ongoing inquiry, as confirmed by Hanover Police.

Earlier that morning, Penn Township Police had issued a press release, alerting the public about Bolen, who was driving a gray Honda Pilot. The arrest warrant against him included charges related to multiple firearms offenses, eluding officers, and other related offenses.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., the York County Office of Emergency Management reported a "police incident" on the 400 block of Broadway in Hanover. The State Police disclosed that an officer from the Hanover Borough Police Department had noticed Bolen's gray Honda Pilot at the Sunoco Gas Station, triggering the officers' response to the area.
