Tragedy at St. Jude: Murder Case Takes Unexpected Turn as Getaway Driver Walks Free
A dramatic twist unfolded in the true crime case surrounding the tragic murder of Alexander Bulakhov, a beloved researcher at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Brandy Rucker, one of the two suspects accused of involvement, was released after a judge dismissed charges against her due to lack of probable cause. This unexpected development leaves co-defendant Marious Ward, the alleged gunman, facing potential indictment by a grand jury.
Bulakhov's wife, Anastasiia, bravely recounted the chilling details of the robbery-turned-murder during Wednesday's court hearing. While walking near their home, the family was accosted by a masked gunman. During a heroic attempt to protect his wife, Bulakhov was shot and later succumbed to his injuries.
Police identified Ward as the suspected shooter through surveillance footage capturing the getaway vehicle, a white 2013 Toyota Camry with distinct damage. Apprehended at an apartment complex, Ward allegedly confessed to the shooting and possessed a 9mm handgun. However, Rucker's involvement remains under scrutiny after the judge ruled insufficient evidence tied her directly to the November 2023 crime.
The Shelby County District Attorney's Office clarifies that Rucker's release doesn't signify the end of the case. They intend to present it to a grand jury for potential indictment, emphasizing their commitment to securing justice for Bulakhov.
