Missouri Mother, Ashley Parmeley Confesses to Drowning Son and Fatally Shooting Daughter

A tragic incident occurred in Missouri involving a 36-year-old mother, Ashley Parmeley, who allegedly confessed to killing her two young children.

She reportedly admitted to drowning her 2-year-old son and fatally shooting her 9-year-old daughter.

Ashley Parmeley was apprehended on Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder for her son's death, while charges for her daughter's death are still under consideration.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak, Parmeley walked into the Festus Police Department around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, claiming she had just killed her children, specifying that one was shot and the other drowned.

Officers noted that Parmeley appeared "wet" and "a little disheveled" but did not provide a motive for her actions.

Parmeley allegedly informed the police that her daughter's body was in her Mazda SUV parked outside the station.

Officers quickly located the 9-year-old girl in the vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Despite their attempts to save her, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boy was found drowned in a water fountain pool at the Timber Creek Resort on Highway 67, an unincorporated area of Festus, Missouri.

Sheriff Marshak explained that officers retrieved the boy’s body from the water and attempted lifesaving measures, but he was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Parmeley first shot her daughter at a location on Hwy. E near Bonne Terre in St. Francois County, Missouri, before driving to the Timber Creek Resort to drown her son, and then heading to the police station to confess.

The St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will decide the charges related to the daughter's death.

Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the alleged murders.

Sheriff Marshak expressed the community’s grief, stating, "This situation is a tragedy for our community. It’s a tragedy for the family and the victims and anybody that knows this family."

Although the police have not officially identified the victims, the Festus R-VI School District confirmed that the 9-year-old, Scarlet Parmeley, was killed.

In a letter to parents, the district described Scarlet as a "bubbly, energetic, and trustworthy student" who was "caring and compassionate, eager to please, with a good sense of humor."

The letter mentioned her excitement about moving to the 4th grade in August.

Ashley Parmeley is currently held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, Missouri.

Under Missouri state law, a conviction for second-degree murder can result in a maximum penalty of 30 years in a state correctional facility.
